Thin-Film Coating

Thin-film coating is one of key-elements in most of optical products and devices. A variety of coatings, such as an anti-reflection (AR) coating, a high reflection (HR) coating, a partial reflection (PR) coating, and a band-pass filter (BPF) are deployed for many our optical components and tunable lasers.

Santec has pursued to achieve advanced coating technology and the capabilities as one of core technology in santec for more than 10 years. Many types of unique coating processes are available in santec.

  • IAD(Ion-assisted deposition)
  • RAD(RF-assisted deposition)
  • IBS(Ion-beam sputter)

Santec has deployed total 12 units of these deposition machines.
Highly reliable direct coatings on glass substrate and on a GRIN (Gradient-index) lens are available.

Introduction of Grand-Ex Coating Technology

1.  Ultralow reflection coating (Super-AR coating)

  Conventional AR coating can suppress surface reflectance to 0.2%. Super-AR coating can suppress as low as 0.01%.Filter_ARcoat_2
  Left figure shows a super-AR coating consisting of 2 layers. A narrow wavelength band has minimum residual reflection. Generally the 2 layers coating is called as “V-Coating”. The optical performance was measured using an ultra-wideband source UWS-1000, santec. The measured curve (Blue line) shows a good coincidence with the design (green line).







Filter ARcoat 4層

  Left figure shows a super-AR coating consisting of 4 layers. A wide band has minimum residual reflection. Generally the 4 layers coating is called as “W-Coating”. The measured curve (Blue line) shows a good coincidence with the design (green line).







Filter ARcoat 8層

  Left figure shows a super-AR coating consisting of 8 layers. A super wideband has minimum residual reflection. The measured curve (Blue line) shows a good coincidence with the design (green line).






2.  Ultimate wavelength selective edge filter (Super-PON filter).

  In a next generation WDM-PON system will deploy multi-colored signals between ONT(optical network terminal) and OLT (optical line terminal). The Super-PON filter will be able to achieve enough signal isolations with the single unit. Efficient signal isolations of 35dB in reflection and transmission are available.Filter_PON_Reflectance

  Left figure shows a reflective optical performance consisting of 118 layers. The filter achieved highest isolation of 40 dB in the world ever reported. The measured curve (Red line) shows a good coincidence with the design (green line).

  These highest performance is only available from santec. Santec will contribute to our society in optical coating technology.
