Integrated Photo
Detector, IPD-1
October 28, 2001
Following the success of Santecs 8 and 10 channel
tapped Integrated Photo Detector array modules (IPD-08 and IPD-10)
Santec is pleased to announce the release of a single channel device.
This new device provides a low cost integrated solution to power
monitoring for DWDM system manufacturers who are looking for size
and cost reductions in their systems.
IPD-08 and IPD-10 modules consist of an array of
optical tap-couplers integrated with an array of optical photodetectors.
The result is a compact, low cost solution for multi-channel power
monitoring of DWDM multiplexers and demultiplexers. The new single
channel device, IPD-1, extends these principles to provide for other
DWDM needs. The compact package measures just 3.2mm in diameter
and the integration of coupler and photo-detector simplifies manufacture
by reducing both the number of components and fiber splices.
Optical properties are excellent and include low
loss, low PDL and low backreflection coupled with high sensitivity.
Two models are available covering different wavelength ranges. The
standard unit covers the full C and L wavelength bands. A wideband
version covers both the 1310nm and 1550nm wavelength windows. The
IPD-1 will find a wide range of applications not only in long haul
DWDM systems, but also in metro-core and metro-access systems.
