January 24, 2001 Santec has extended its range of Optical Variable Attenuators with the introduction of the OVA-650. The unit is designed for DWDM system applications and uses a specially designed, low polarization dependent, neutral density filter to achieve excellent optical properties over both the C and L-bands. The unit boasts an insertion loss of <0.6dB and can be supplied in either 15dB or 30dB configurations. The characteristics of the unit, such as the low polarization dependence of <0.15dB, low temperature dependence, and low wavelength dependence are of particular advantage to DWDM applications. In addition, the unit is hermetically sealed to ensure long term reliability, and is fully qualified to Telcordia GR-1221 standards. The OVA-650 uses a stepper motor for accurate electrical
control and is suitable for applications such as transmitter or
receiver power control, EDFA gain control and OADM signal level
adjustment.
