Application Examples
- Optical component characterization
- Fiber optic transmission testing
- Fiber optic sensors
- Optical spectroscopy
- Photonic material characterization
- 1) Insertion Loss Measurement
- The TSL-510 can be used as a conventional step-and-measure tunable laser
for characterization of optical fiber, components or materials. The USB and GPIB
interfaces allow for fully automatic operation.
- 2) Components Characterization using Swept Wavelength Function
- The TSL-510 can be used in conjunction with component analysers which
synchronize with the rapid sweep function of the TSL-510. This enables complete
characterization over the full tuning range of the laser in only a few seconds.

Typical Output Charactistics
Type A (standard)/Type C (high accuracy option) >+10dBm peak power
>+7dBm over full tuning range
|
Type B (high SNR option)
>0dBm peak power
>-2dBm over full tuning range
|

|
- High SNR option (Type B)
- The optical design of this type focuses to gain better signal to noise ratio.
It achieves over 65dB STSSE and over 70dB SSSE. It is essential for measuring large dynamic range of wavelength profile without affected by noise of the light source.
|
Wavelength profile is measured without affected by noise of the light source.
|
Definitions:
STSSE (Signal to Total Source Spontaneous Emission Ratio)
Ratio of signal power to total spontaneous emission power within ±15nm of the signal wavelength.
SSSE (Signal to Source Spontaneous Emission Ratio)
Ratio of signal power to maximum spontaneous emission power in a 1nm band within a ±3nm band around the signal wavelength.
